Hot Boy Summer is officially OVER, and we’re careening, headband first, into Cool Wet Queer Autumn.
All the more reason to moisturise, socialise and hypnotise! There are loads of places to do that out and about in queer London. We’ve picked three of the best.
Love PotionNow in its ninth instalment, Love Potion is an increasingly popular cult queer party from witchy drag sisters Coco Femme Fontaine and Daisy Puller. It’s at Fontaine’s, which in itself is quite the attraction – it’s *Adore Delano voice* very that. And no, it does not belong to Coco Femme Fontaine. If it did there would ocelots lounging about everywhere and Azealia Banks’ Yung Rapunxel album on loop (actually that sounds fab). ANNNYWAY, Love Potion is a night of intimate, decadent, cocktail fuelled drag and debauchery, from two of the most imaginative and accomplished drag performers this side of King’s Landing.
Saturday 7th September at Fontaine’s, 176 Stoke Newington Road, N16 7UY. 7:30pm – 2am. Hit attending here.
Transister
Think deep urban glamour, think Hari Nef running breathlessly through a multi-storey carpark, think lime green lazers, shiny purple hair, heavy boots, pumping techno – all these things combined still don’t quite evoke the unspeakably unique vibe captured by Transsister. It’s a night for trans/GNC people but all (respectful) people are welcome. It’s what some would describe as “heavy” – intense, thrumming music and a distinctly after-hours vibe. But it’s home to some of the loveliest people and most interesting conversations on earth. Well worth a trip.
Cell 200, 3 Vale Royal, N7. 11pm – 5am. Hit attending here.
DEBBIE
POW! Debbie is one of those nights that hits you SQUARELY in the face. No sitting around pontificating here – it’s a smash-and-grab, hit-after-hit, drink-after-drink kind of affair. A night out at DEBBIE is high energy, high camp and high sugar content. DEBBIE’s whole ethos is that they only play music with female vocals. NO MEN ALLOWED. Their music policy is sort of a reversal of XXL’s door policy. The result is excellent, with huge tunes from the likes of Kim Petras, Britney, Blondie, Kylie and more. Oh and there are fabulous creatures of the night like Stella Meltdown, Cassandra and Jules Jones stalking around. All fur coat and no knickers. Sometimes literally.
Saturday 7th September at Eagle London, 349 Kennington Lane, SE11 5QY. 9pm – 4am. Hit attending here.
