#JULIASAYS – Discerning scene musings from the Princess of East London

One minute I’m cracking on with the job in hand, then all of a sudden I’ve wafted down a wormhole and lost two hours of my life! Is it just me, or do you find yourself totally distracted by the latest online gossip, a meme of no account or just plain busy ‘liking’ everything?!

Among the things I like this weekend is What Made Geri Ginger? at The Glory on Thursday 19th. Just May, authority on all things Ginger Spice, brings us a brand new show dedicated to piecing together their fave icon’s career of ups and downs! Show time 7pm – 10pm.

Bodycon presents Bottycon at Dalston Superstore on Thursday 19th September. A free entry night where everything happens before the weekend eats you up! Local DJs, local underground scene and lots of laughs. 9pm – 2:30am.

A relatively new night is back and this month Cookie Jar chooses the theme Dolls & Toys on which to base your looks and be entertained by. Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club on Friday 20th September, 9pm – 2am. On hosting duties Daddy Longlegs, Crayola, Mars and Mahatma Khandi. Acts Tete bang, Vera Yoga Vogue, Stella marbles band Sigi Moonlight. DJs Michelle Manetti, Georgie Bee and Tequilla! Show time 11pm!

We love Inferno and this month Lewis G. Burton and Sebastian Bartz (Venice Calypso) have created a night that is the ultimate community space for performance art to flourish! Hosted by Brother of Set, it’s at The Yard Theatre up at Hackney Wick, 11pm – 6am on Friday 20th Sept.

Fancy some rock’n’roll, indie, live band action? The DIY Thursdays is for you and it’s back on Saturday 21st September. A labour of love for host Lyndell Mansfield who puts on this night at The Engine Rooms, Unit 30, Triangle Business Center, Eleonor Street, E3 in Bow. Bands start at 9:30pm and they are The Bridget Jonestown Massacre, Nuha Ruby Ra and MGF.

This night is fast becoming a cult destination…Transmissions and Birds present Harpies Strip Club: Pleasure Politics puts on a night that crosses any boundaries society has set up and we are destined to break. It’s an LGBTQ+ strip night at Metropolis taking place on Saturday 21st over 4 floors. DJ’s Josh Quinton, Prince Harri and Basmati from Pxssy Palace making their debut! GAY GARAGE are hosting The Beach area. Performance throughout the night from superstars of our scene include Kevin Le Grand, Cassandra, Chiyo Gomes and Barbs. Hosted by Lucia Blayke and Jeanie Crystal…10pm – 5am

Saturday night at Pink Glove is where yer queer, indie, post punk, new wave disco takes top billing. It’s at the Moth Club in Hackney Central. Join DJs Mike Menace and Heidi Heelz playing their finest smash hits! 10pm – 1am.

Feel the love at Love Child Summer Roof Top Party at Ace Hotel #2 on Sunday 22nd September. A major day party starting at 4pm, carrying on inside the club at the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch till 2am. DJs include Jaye Ward, Nadine Artois, ND. Baumecker aka Ostgut Ton from Berghain and Josh Caffe

Ever wanted to make your own drag then now’s your chance…Stitch it like a Queen Taster Sewing Class for Drag Artists is a new workshop at The Glory on Sunday 22nd September, 4:30pm – 7:30pm. Hosted and tutored by Polosophia the world’s first story based label. Then come and join me for Princess Julia Loves with my special guest, performance artist Danielle Imara, also at The Glory, 7pm-11pm. See you then!
