Earlier this year, Chester County Court heard how 31-year-old plumber Benjamin Muskett, a father of two, hatched a plan to seduce closeted married men, and then extort them for money whilst he was staying at a hospital earlier this year. He would find his victims on gay dating sites, and it’s unclear just how many fell victim to his plan/
One of the victims, referred to as Mr.X was a 51-year-old closeted man who agreed to a meet up on the 2nd of September, and had planned to have sex with Muskett.
They both arranged to meet in Sandbach, Cheshire outside of a Co-op. They had arranged to travel to a country lane after meeting up. Soon after Mr.X, who is married (to a woman), performed oral sex on Muskett. In the days that followed he received several threatening messages from him.
He demanded that Mr.X pay him £5,00 in cash. If he would fail to do so, Muskett threatened to upload footage of their encounter to a website. Terrified that he would be outed, Mr. X notified police. The day after, authorities arrested Muskett. He confessed to the blackmail, but claimed that he was bluffing about the video footage, and that no such footage exists.
In court, Muskett’s lawer claimed that her client acted out of desperation to provide for his family stating that “He was on benifits and felt unable to provide for his family. He’s a qualified plumber.”.
Muskett was sentenced to three years behind bars by Judge Berkson who told the defendant “this crime was particularly vicious because it was planned and deliberate”.
