Remember that ICONIC episode of Absolutely Fabulous. In fact, it’s possibly the best episode of Ab Fab ever. Saffy has a play, Self-Raising Flower (scream!) in which she not-so-subtlely gets her own back on Eddie and Patsy for neglecting her as a child.
Of course it all backfires, and Eddie and Patsy end up going out and getting pissed with the actors who play them. It’s got so many of the best lines in it, one of which is simply Patsy in the audience yelling “OH, PISS OFF!”
Anyway, the unassuming, quiant little theatre where it was filmed, is now playing host to a queer comedy fundraiser! How fitting!
It’s to raise money for LGBTQ mental health charity Elop. Elop offers a range of services and resources to North & East London’s LGBTQ community, with a particular focus on emotional support. With chemsex still prevalent, and a young generation struggling with an anxiety epidemic, mental health support for the LGBTQ community is as important as ever.
The night is on 24th June, and will see turns from the deliciously sardonic Joe Sutherland, bright-eyed MTV star James Barr, and the delightfully surreal Mawaan Rizwan (here’s an added bit of trivia – Mawaan is our cover star next week). NOT TO MENTION drag supergroup DENIM, who are like Little Mix if instead of being on The X Factor they’d been on acid.

Anyway, it’s sure to be a night of unbridled hilarity. Who knows, maybe Eddie and Patsy will stumble in clutching bottles of Bollinger. We knew it was a comedy, go for it kids!
The ELOP Comedy Fundraiser is on Sunday 24th June from 7pm at The Pleasance Theatre, Carpenters Mews, North Road, N7 9EF. Tickets available at pleasance.co.uk.
