The days of strolling into a dimly lit club with little in the way of style are long gone. In today’s world, themes and trends are all the rage for dancers and drinkers. A great example of this nightclub revolution is the cocktail craze. Maturing over the last two years, many of the chicest clubs in London and beyond have taken mixology to new levels. In fact, what’s interesting about this trend is that it’s become a form of theatre.

While the taste and consistency of the drink are important, it’s the sparkle around the glass that’s made this theme popular with revellers. From firecrackers and dry ice to lavish props that could have come straight from a movie set, cocktails in today’s stylish clubs are a sight to behold. Of course, that’s not the only theme sweeping clubland at the moment. While it’s almost impossible to keep a lock on a particular trend for very long, the following three motifs are worth looking out for if you want to experience a night out with a difference.

Ancient Egyptian Themes

Despite the Ancient Egyptians as we know them falling at the hands of the Roman Empire in 30BC, the culture is still going strong today. Indeed, almost everywhere you look in modern society, you’ll see something that has links to the likes of the great rulers of Egypt. According to Londonist, there are at least ten places in the capital where you can see pharaohs, pyramids and more. From the obvious hotspots like the British Museum to less obvious Carreras Cigarette Factory in Camden where two black cats are a nod to the ancient culture.

Beyond the streets of London, the online world, in particular the gaming industry, is packed with Egyptian artefacts. Tomb Raider by Eidos Interactive and latterly Square Enix have made an entire franchise out of exploring the ancient world. So too have online casino operators. The Mr Green app not only contains a slot game featuring Lara Croft but a selection of Cleopatra inspired spinners. With all this Ancient Egyptian love, it’s little wonder club promoters have got into the act. Ra in Southport is just one example of this growing trend and one you should keep an eye on in the coming years.

Do It Yourself Drinking

Camden is often the birthplace of new ideas in the entertainment world and BYOC has continued this tradition. Named by TimeOut as one of the quirkiest drinking spots in London, BYOC takes the prohibition theme and mixes it with a bit of DIY. No, that doesn’t mean you’re going to see Nick Knowles behind the bar making cocktails. However, what you will see is skilled mixologists take your drinks and blend them into something special.

As you’d expect, the décor inside BYOC is based on the prohibition era, but there are also shades of Peaky Blinders. Indeed, this bar has become something of a hit thanks to the BBC show. While that’s all well and good, the real reason this bar is interesting is because you take your own drinks. From here, the bar staff will wheel a trolley to your table and start creating something special from offerings. This DIY style of drinking is becoming extremely popular for those that don’t want to be dictated to and another theme to look out for when you’re searching for a fun night out.
