LGBT moments in Game of Thrones, which have become increasingly frequent in recent seasons, following the introduction of characters like Yara Greyjoy, Oberyn Martell and Loras Tyrell.
Of course, these aren’t the only characters with same-sex encounters. In fact, the first LGBT scene involves none other than the Queen of Dragons herself. Anyone who has read the books knows that Daenerys Targaryen is actually bisexual, which makes her encounter with her handmaiden Doreah in the first season a little more meaningful.
By episode five, things heat up a lot more with the introduction of Ser Loras and Lord Renly, not as friends but as lovers. However, it isn’t until season 2, episode 3 that we see these two together in an intimate session again, and it takes place just before Renly is murdered by that weird shadow thing that Stannis and Melisandre manage to cook up.
Following the death of Renly, Loras doesn’t really get back on the wagon again until halfway through season 3 when he meets Olyvar at Petyr “Littfinger” Baelish’s tacky brothel. Two seasons later and this cheeky pair are still together, and Margaery knows all about it. Unfortunately, it isn’t long before all of Westeros knows about it as well, so their relationship doesn’t end too happily either.
Thankfully, Prince Oberyn Martell and Ellaria Sand have been knocking around since season 4 to keep the LGBT-friendly scenes coming. At first, their antics are simply alluded to in Bealish’s brothel, but it soon becomes clear what these two are into. Speaking of brothels, we also get to see Yara Greyot get off with a girl in Valantis in season 6, and flirt with Daenerys in Mereen… and finally kiss Ellaria in season 7. Needless to say, there are plenty of LGBT characters to channel from Game of Thrones, and since the show won’t be returning until 2019 we understand why you’d want to fill the gap with GoT-related shenanigans. So, we thought we’d cover some simple ways you can bring your favourite Game of Thrones characters – gay or straight – to life over the next year.
Throw a Game of Thrones Fancy Dress Party
Throughout 2018 and possibly most of 2019, you should have more than enough time to relive the entire show from beginning to present. Well, instead of sitting in your pyjamas mourning all of your favourite characters – because you know they’re dead – why not make a party out of it? It’s actually a lot easier than you think. Say for instance you plan on being Jon Snow or one of his many Night’s Watch buddies, chances are you can get a faux fur cape straight from IKEA. In fact, you can definitely get an outfit from online marketplaces like eBay, where a Jon Snow cape goes for as little as $29.99. We all know we’d rather be Lady Olenna Tyrell, but that costume is a little trickier, so we only recommend the truly dedicated take on the Queen of Thorns. Once you and your friends have got your costumes ready and the show is ready to go, just set up some snacks and you’ll be ready to have the best costume party of all time. Extra points if you manage to get someone who has never seen the show before to attend.
Play Game of Thrones
Over the years there have been a few PC and console Game of Thrones releases for the gaymers among us. Unfortunately, there was only one that really captured the world of Westeros and allowed you to step into your favourite characters shoes. Released in 2014, Telltale Games’ Game of Thrones game for Xbox, Windows, PS4, iOS and Android overshadowed all previous and even future titles. We’re not saying this Telltale release is the best game out there, but it sure is one of the better titles we’ve received based on the Game of Thrones franchise. So, we recommend looking elsewhere for you Game of Thrones fix. Instead of relying on console and PC developers to deliver, simply take a look at what the world of iGaming has to offer right now. A particularly popular one is software developer Microgaming’s Game of Thrones slot, available at iGaming provider Betway Casino, where there’s currently a welcome bonus of up to £1000 to spend on the game, it’s got a number of versions depending on how many paylines you’d prefer and plenty of free spins. This means you’re likely to see the banners of each house you love, as well as those you hate. The high stakes which you can choose to play for add to the experience of feeling like you’re in the world of Game of Thrones.
Plan a Game of Thrones World Trip
Okay, this one’s a little ambitious but hey, if you’ve got the time and the funds, why not? There are locations all over the world where the cast has filmed including Malta, Ireland, Scotland, Spain and Croatia. They’re so popular that fans have even made an effort to log every single location seen on screen, whether it be on the coasts of Dubrovnik or Klis Fortress, otherwise known as Mereen. There’s also a Game of Thrones Tours company in Ireland, which will show you around Dublin Winterfell locations and other shooting locations. While some of these international locations may be far away from where you are, sites like Tripadvisor often offer reasonably priced trips and tours for anyone that’s a fan of Game of Thrones. You never know, if you keep an eye on these destinations you might find the deal of a lifetime. Then, you can well and truly stand in the footsteps of your favourite Game of Thrones character.
