Get yourself a free drink with some poetry!
We all love a bit of poetry don’t we. In fact, we’re having a bit of a poetry renaissance here at QX at the moment. There’s a piece on poetry in our latest issue, about gay libertine poet Arthur Rimbaud. Apparently he was “the Justin Bieber of 1890s Paris.” But that’s another thinkpiece for another time.
Now, we’re talking about contemporary poetry. Or more specifically, poetry written by YOU! Don’t look at us like that! You can do it! You know, you actually encounter poetry every day – poets aren’t just your Carol Ann Duffys and your Seamus Heaneys. They’re musicians too. Dua Lipa is a poet. Charli XCX is a poet. Meghan Trainor is not a poet. She’s shite.
But yes, if you feel up for practising your own poetry, you can get yourself a free coffee or tea out of it. And in 2017, as millenials living in London, a free coffee or tea is not to be sneezed at. It’s World Poetry Day today, and their campaign Pay With A Poem, in partnership with Viennese coffee rosters Julius Meinl, allows people to pay for their tea or coffee with a poem!
