It’s funny isn’t it in these days of recording everything we do, that if you don’t have photographic evidence of the moment, in theory, you weren’t there. Some things just have to be relegated to memory.
There’s an exhibition of photographic work from Iain Mckell on Southend Pier that’s just gone up and is set to stay up forever, called Infinity. Spanning four decades of portraiture covering the New Romantic era onwards, I realized Iain had never taken a photo of me from said decade. Instead there’s a much more current photo, but it made me think, ‘Was I actually there?’
If you think you think the Dalston Superstore is just a disco bar then you’re partly right – it’s also a vibrant cafe with delish food, an arts destination, oh and also home to Quiz Me Maybe-Mean Gurlz which is back on Thursday 13th with a Mean Girls film theme. Hosted by Shay Shay and Just May starts at 7pm, prizes to be won and lots of giggles. Then of course on Friday 14th at Dalston Superstore A Man To Pet’s Magic Boys is the kind of night where you can experience drag star A Man To Pet in all her full glory with her special friends taking turns to satisfy her needs. Yes, seven scantily clad go-go boys will be prancing on the bar while Terry Vietheer, Vangelis La.Ga.Sta, Pet Piss and Bica take turns DJing from 9pm-3am. Blimey, living at Dalston Superstore this weekend! Saturday 15th it’s the return of Pump! with special guests Hifi Sean and locals the UN-LUCKY BITCHES (Beary Carey & Craig Parker).
Up at The Glory, it’s jam packed full of people to see… Meat: The Glory Takeover #2 on Friday 14th is the sort of night not to be missed!
